Dr. Markus Dömer (born 1966) lives and works as an independent artist in Hamburg.
Dömer studied at the TU, FU and Hdk in Berlin. Afterwards he started working in the Textile industry. For several years he was the CEO of the family owned weaving mill business. Simultaneously he did his doctorate (Dr. Rerum politicarum) in Muenster. Subsequently Dömer changed direction working in the Media Industry and became assistent to the chairman of the executive board of the bertelsmann foundation. From 2004 until 2008 he served an executive position in the Marketing/Advertising field at the Axel Springer AG.
Dömer is an predominant abstract painter. He combines multiple archaic painted surfaces with stencils lettering elements. Since the beginning of the year 2000 he has primarily been concerned with Portrait as a theme for his paintings. His large-sized paintings (150 cm x 110 cm) are painted in a realistic style with a definite and recurring grid.
In terms of content Markus Dömer primarily concerns himself with the question of the existential source of the human being and the isolation of the individual in a society in which "everything" seems to be possible. Aura and authenticity are also important elements that characterise his paintings. Artistically Markus Dömer sees himself committed to the Renaissance-Ideal of the Uomo Universale, respectively the baroque type of the painter-entrepreneur.
